Akita Heritage Center
August 2025

The Akita Heritage Center is a proposed civic facility designed to attract tourists to Akita City and serve as a community hub for citizens. In a Japan facing issues with overtourism in some areas and lack of tourism in others, the Akita Heritage Center acts as a waypoint for tourists in the Tohoku region, while also serving a civilian purpose.
The building is comprised of five "petals" forming the shape of a cherry blossom, and utilizes locally-sourced Akita-sugi wood. Each petal has a unique functionality, such as a cafe, tourist information center, cultural history museum, library, and an event hall.
Height: 13.50 m (44.29 ft)
